A Level Playing Field: College Readiness Standards

Every school has its own “top tenth” – the high-performing children who represent the greatest aspirations of their communities. In this study, A Level Playing Field: How College Readiness Standards Change the Accountability Game, our researchers tracked the academic growth of high-achieving students in 1300 elementary and middle schools, and the results reveal a great deal about how these schools meet the needs of their best students.  Some of our assumptions about the growth and performance of students from high-poverty schools relative to their peers from wealthier schools may be challenged in this data gallery, where you can explore how school poverty level interacts with student growth, college readiness, and college access.  And be sure to check out the data used for our companion report, For Whom the Pell Tolls: How Financial Aid Policies Widen the Opportunity Gap, to learn more about how education policy can play a role in assuring equal access for all students.   Read the full report, A Level Playing Field: How College Readiness Standards Change the Accountability Game.
