Awarding grants of up to $10,000 supporting educators closing the opportunity gaps that affect PreK-12 student achievement
Portland, Ore. – March 9, 2021 – NWEA – a not-for-profit research and assessment solutions provider – announced today that it is accepting applications for its Educators for Equity Grant Program for the 2021-22 academic year. The program awards grants of up to $10,000 each to schools, districts, and nonprofit organizations to fund programs that support academic development through hands-on, experiential, and culturally relevant learning for students from traditionally underserved communities.
“Our goal is to have real impact on individual students who face systemic barriers to academic opportunities by funding meaningful, evidenced-based programs that share our mission of helping all kids learn,” said Vanessa Peterson, VP of DEIA and Human Resources at NWEA. “The need for funding these impactful programs is now greater than ever as the pandemic has exacerbated pre-existing inequities and I’m excited that NWEA, once again, is able to host this program.”
This is the third year that NWEA has offered the Educators for Equity Grant Program. Recipients have included school and nonprofit programs supporting U.S. students in PreK – 12th grade. Programs like the HOPES after-school enrichment program in Chicago that provides students experiencing homelessness in grades K-5 with homework help, literacy development, and academic enrichment multiple days per week; or, TechBoston Academy, which was awarded a grant to help fund the Personal as a Political Senior Trip project in 2019; or, Lil’ Playmakers Project in Fresno, a K – 8 program that combines sports fundamentals and English/Spanish language acquisition with an emphasis on literacy, and reiterates positive involvement to counter the efforts of gang recruitment.
To be eligible for the grant, applicants must be a U.S. school or non-profit organization serving students from pre-K through 12th grade. Applications are evaluated on the extent to which the grant award will benefit students who face systemic barriers to academic opportunities, including students who identify as Black or African American, Hispanic, Latinx, Native American, Indigenous, or Asian/Pacific Islander; students learning English and speaking a language other than English fluently; and students experiencing economic disadvantage. In addition, programs will be evaluated based on evidence base, equity mission, cultural relevance, and academic focus. Use of NWEA products or services is not required for eligibility and will not be considered when selecting grant recipients.
Deadline to apply is June 11, 2021. Recipients will be selected and notified by August 2021.
