Miah Daughtery, Ed.D., will lead English literacy efforts in content advocacy and design
Portland, Ore. – Oct. 6, 2020 – Miah Daughtery, Ed.D., is the new Director of Content Advocacy and Design focused on English Literacy Arts (ELA) for NWEA – a not-for-profit assessment provider. Daughtery brings more than 20 years of expertise in guiding ELA strategies while serving as a middle and high school teacher, instructional specialist, state coordinator, director of literacy and executive director of professional learning. At NWEA, she will lead efforts to support ELA educators more holistically; helping develop the organization’s content perspective and lead design of new products and services related to assessment, professional learning, and school improvement.

Daughtery’s most recent position was as Executive Director of Content and Professional Learning for Odell Education where she led the development and management of the Integrated Writing Units for Science and Social Studies. Prior to that, she served as Director of ELA and Literacy for Achieve, Inc. where she led the development of “Strong Standards: A Review of Changes to State Standards Since the Common Core” and provided technical assistance to states by review and providing feedback on their proposed revisions of their ELA standards. As the ELA coordinator for the Tennessee Department of Education, her primary responsibility was to create the ELA portion of TNReady, the state’s 3-11 summative assessment. And for Clark County School District in Las Vegas, NV, she led efforts in professional development, standards alignment and curricular review. Daughtery holds an Ed.D. in Public Policy & Educational Administration from Vanderbilt University, a Master’s in Reading Education from Wayne State University and a B.A. in English from the University of Michigan.
