NWEA Adds Further Expertise to Enhance Efforts in Math Content

Tammy Baumann, Ph.D., joins the Content Advocacy and Design team to support initiatives in mathematics

Portland, Ore. – Jan. 12, 2021 – Tammy Baumann, Ph.D., joins NWEA – a not-for-profit research and assessment provider – as the new Senior Manager, Content & Curriculum Advocacy, to support the organization’s efforts in developing deep, rigorous and research-informed math content solutions. She brings more than 20 years of math expertise in a critical time as the latest research in COVID-19 impacts on student learning show a greater hit to math achievement and growth.

“As we look at how best to support the education community through this pandemic and beyond, it’s important for us to have insightful voices on our NWEA team,” said Ted Coe, Director of Content and Advocacy at NWEA. “Tammy brings a wealth of background and expertise that is highly valuable as we continue to weather the impacts of COVID-19 and look ahead toward recovery.”

Baumann is a well-known member of the mathematics community presenting at national conferences for organizations like National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Florida Association of District Superintendents, and GE Foundations conferences.  The focus of her most recent work has been the inclusion of supports for English Learners, supports for Students with Disabilities and cultural relevancy in mathematics curriculum.  She has served as a math teacher, instructional coach, director at the university level and most recently as Chief Academic Officer at Open Up Resources. Bauman earned her doctorate degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Capella University, an M.Ed. in Secondary Mathematics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania as well as a B.S. in Secondary Mathematics from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.

As the new Senior Manager, Content & Curriculum Advocacy, Baumann will focus on content quality and alignment as she connects NWEA’s work to important initiatives in mathematics education and advocates for high-quality teaching and learning for all.
