Research shows that estimates of school effectiveness are sensitive to seasonal patterns in student learning, particularly summer loss. In this research brief from the Collaborative for Student Growth, we share our findings on the extent that ignoring summer learning loss impacts school accountability determinations and whether we may be unfairly penalizing schools by not accounting for within-year growth.
