Science of reading

The converging evidence of what matters and what works in literacy instruction, organized around models that describe how and why—also known as the science of reading—is driving so many of today’s conversations about K–5 literacy instruction. The science of reading is not new, but the movement and the flood of legislation requiring schools to use evidence-based methods for teaching students how to read is a more recent development.

We have spent almost 50 years pioneering educational research, designing evidence-based methods, and supporting educators in data-based decision-making. That support is the crucial piece for improving student outcomes, which is why you’ll find so many resources below for learning about and implementing the science of reading.

Professional learning that’s drawn from the deep base of the science of learning and reading can help you achieve your goals. Our literacy professional learning is aligned to the International Dyslexia Association’s Knowledge and Practice Standards. These evidence-aligned literacy offerings are specifically designed to help educators answer the question: “What do I do in the classroom tomorrow?”
