Data Detectives

Educators may have heard that “data tells a story,” but they might not know exactly how to read their own data. School leaders and teachers alike may need to be reminded that they already use data for instructional decision-making every day. What if an intentional shift in instruction was just one click deeper than you thought?

If there’s one thing educators know, it’s that meaningful measures to meet students’ needs involve multiple data points: talks with families, reports from previous years, conversations with students after a sports game, last night’s homework assignment, and their most recent assessment result.

In our Data Detectives series, we leverage our extensive network of partner schools and the thousands of stories we’ve heard to bring such “data stories” to life, illustrating the inevitable action that takes place when reliable data meets educator context—even if that context is hiding in the form the science teacher’s pet axolotl!
