NWEA’s Literacy Professional Learning Suite Accredited by the International Dyslexia Association

Portland, Ore. (Oct. 20, 2025) NWEA, a K-12 assessment and research organization, announced today that it has received a significant marker of quality and rigor for its NWEA Literacy Professional Learning Suite, a series of eight sessions for teachers and leaders with aligned measurements of mastery. The International Dyslexia Association (IDA) granted the professional learning suite its seal of accreditation for its alignment with the science of reading, structured literacy, and the IDA Knowledge and Practice Standards (KPS).

“This is an incredible accomplishment and signals that we’re providing quality and science-backed professional learning to prepare educators to effectively teach the science of reading through structured literacy,” said Dr. Tiffany Peltier, Director of Professional Learning at NWEA.

IDA accreditation is recognized nationally as a mark of excellence in programs aligned with the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy. This distinction assures that educators are receiving professional learning grounded in the most current research that not only improves outcomes for students but also allows educators to pursue national Structured Literacy certification through the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI). For schools and districts, the accreditation reflects a trusted commitment to quality, compliance, and lasting impact in literacy teaching and learning.

The full, accredited suite includes a total of 45 hours of live workshops designed to help educators adopt practices grounded in the science of teaching reading. Participants learn highly practical and efficient routines for teaching word recognition and comprehension to use in their own classrooms immediately alongside their adopted curriculum and assessments. The suite is currently available in an in-person or virtual learning setting. The eight workshops in the NWEA Literacy Professional Learning Suite are:

  1. Understanding how students learn to read
  2. Early word recognition
  3. Advanced word recognition
  4. Foundations of writing
  5. Building fluent readers
  6. Improving vocabulary and morphological knowledge
  7. Cultivating comprehension and knowledge
  8. Aligned literacy interventions
