Michelle’s passion is leadership development, and she thoroughly enjoys mentoring and helping anyone interested in further building their leadership capacity. During her time as a classroom-level, building-level, and district-level leader, Michelle has adopted a growth mindset and sees value in a “shared vision” approach with all those committed to improving schools.
Michelle has worked in the Lockport City School District in New York for her entire 33-year career in education. She began working as an elementary school classroom teacher before shifting to administration—serving as director of staff development and community education, elementary school principal, assistant superintendent for learning and assessment, and superintendent of schools for the last 11 years of her career in Lockport before retiring from the district in 2022.
She is a recipient of the Honorary Life Membership New York State PTA, a Leadership Niagara graduate, a Business First 40 under 40 recipient, a United Way Shining Star recipient, a Section VI Athletic Council 2022 honoree, and a graduate of the William Glasser Quality Schools Institute. Her schools have been on Business First’s list of 100 best public elementary schools in western New York, and she has been named repeatedly on Business First’s list of power women in western New York.
Michelle earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from the State University of New York at Oswego, a master’s in curriculum development from Buffalo State College, and a certificate of advanced study from Buffalo State College.
