Jing Chen, Ph.D.
Dr. Jing Chen’s primary research areas include automated scoring, human scoring, learning progression-based science assessment, psychometric modeling and applications of machine learning in educational assessments. Before joining NWEA, Dr. Chen was a senior scientist at Human Resources Research Organization (HumRRO), where she worked on projects including validity studies for large-scale assessments, evaluations of state assessments, and program efficacy studies. Before joining HumRRO, she worked as a research project manager at Educational Testing Service, where she led research projects to drive the improvements in automated scoring and human scoring of constructed responses and contributed to the deployment of automated scoring in new use contexts. She received her Ph.D. from Michigan State University with dual majors in Measurement & Quantitative Methods and Science Education.
