The proceeds from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s acquisition of NWEA will support the formation of a private foundation that will continue NWEA’s commitment to making a difference for students. It will be a national non-profit organization, based in Oregon, with staff in several states across the country. The private foundation will be exploring and supporting ideas and innovations in education to positively change the trajectories of students.
Over the next year, the foundation will decide on a name, determine its full structure, and provide details of its mission, including what programs will be available. The former Board of Directors for NWEA will be the new Board of the private foundation. Mark Strickland will serve as the Board Chair.
More details and updates will be coming over the next year.
“We’re excited to honor and extend NWEA’s mission, Partnering to Help All Kids Learn, at this new foundation. This unique opportunity to make a lasting impact in the lives of all kids is truly humbling–and we’re ready to make the most of it.”Melissa Johnston
Interim Chief Executive Officer
