Ed Ryans is an educational leader with a passion for providing the best educational opportunities for youth in urban areas. As a career educator, he has served in many leadership capacities at the school and district level. Currently, he is an instructional director/principal supervisor for a cluster of schools in Prince George’s County, Maryland. In this role, he has oversight over 10 comprehensive high schools and one alternative center. 

Previously, Ed served as the district’s turnaround director. During this time, he managed two federal school improvement grants, oversaw six turnaround schools, and led the effort to deliver services in the areas of pedagogy; leadership development; and family, school, and community engagement. Under his leadership, two of the schools achieved “adequate yearly progress” for the first time.

Ed earned his bachelor’s degree in English from Morehouse College in 1993. He earned his master’s degree in school administration and supervision and a doctorate in urban educational leadership from Bowie State University in 1998 and 2009, respectively. His research interests include principal supervision and leadership coaching. He was the recipient of the Dean’s Award for Dissertation Research.

Ed resides in Fort Washington, Maryland, with his wife. He has two sons and three grandchildren.
