Jodi shares how her district built a data playbook that connects <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nwea.org\/blog\/2025\/universal-screening-101\/\">universal screening<\/a> to the intimate work of PLCs, instructional leadership teams, and targeted supports for a system that drives student growth.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A small district with big results<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">West Feliciana Parish Schools serves a geographically large but population-small community about 35 miles north of Baton Rouge. All students are housed on a single campus that includes one lower elementary, one elementary, one middle, and one high school. The district\u2019s recent achievements include not only ranking #1 in Louisiana based on the state assessment but also recognition from the Louisiana Department of Education for their high dosage\u2013tutoring program.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Building the playbook<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The district\u2019s approach to data is rooted in practicality. They put non-negotiables in place around universal screening assessments and PLCs:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Universal screening is conducted three times a year, in the fall, winter, and spring<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nwea.org\/blog\/2025\/why-instructional-time-matters-for-fair-comparisons-of-student-achievement\/\">Schools select their own testing dates<\/a> within district-assigned two-week windows<\/li>\n<li>After each window, data teams meet for up to two weeks to analyze results and plan interventions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But the real power of the playbook lies in how data is used.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Actionable data at every step<\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">West Feliciana\u2019s system ensures that every team\u2014from school leaders to classroom teachers\u2014uses <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nwea.org\/map-growth\/\">MAP\u00ae Growth\u2122<\/a> reports with purpose and precision.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>School leadership teams<\/em><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These teams begin the process by reviewing\u00a0their <a href=\"https:\/\/teach.mapnwea.org\/impl\/maphelp\/Content\/Data\/SampleReports\/SchoolProfile.htm\">School Profile report<\/a> and later, as needed, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nwea.org\/blog\/2024\/getting-schooled-on-the-map-growth-class-profile-report\/\">Class Profile reports<\/a>. This allows leaders to start with a bigger view\u2014for example, \u201cWhat does math on my campus look like?\u201d\u2014and then look into individual classes, all the way down to a targeted area that may need some support.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Instructional leadership teams <\/em><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This is the brainstorming team that serves as a \u201cthink tank\u201d for a school. This team may include members of the district leadership along with teachers who can speak to the topic that\u2019s being addressed. They often start with the\u00a0Class Profile report\u00a0but rely on the <a href=\"https:\/\/connection.nwea.org\/s\/article\/Achievement-Status-Growth-Summary-with-Quadrant-Chart-features-and-FAQ?language=en_US\">Achievement Status and Growth (ASG) Summary\u00a0with\u00a0Quadrant Chart<\/a> to identify challenges the school is facing and begin brainstorming ways to address it.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Data team PLCs<\/em><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What do teachers use? Data team PLCs use\u00a0Class Profile reports\u00a0to analyze individual and group performance. Teachers see students grouped by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nwea.org\/blog\/2025\/how-the-map-growth-rit-scale-offers-valuable-insights-into-student-growth\/\">RIT score<\/a> band, which allows them to plan instruction that\u2019s precisely targeted, bridging the gap between assessment and instruction. This is also where MAP Growth has played a big role in West Feliciana Parish\u2019s award-winning high-dosage tutoring program by identifying which students need the most support.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>Progress monitoring<\/em><\/h2>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jodi attributes a large part of the district\u2019s success to their commitment to progress monitoring. The Class Profile report again plays a big role here; educators can see the span of student achievement, from those who have the most deficits to those who are excelling.
