Their focus is often on letter grades and whether their child is passing or failing. When family-teacher conferences roll around, they\u2019re rarely long enough to cover everything, leaving assessment data to fall by the wayside. And both families and kids may be confused about why <a href=\"\/map-growth\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">MAP\u00ae Growth\u2122<\/a> isn\u2019t the same as a state-level, year-end assessment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s why we worked closely with <a href=\"https:\/\/bealearninghero.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Learning Heroes<\/a> to create the MAP Growth <a href=\"https:\/\/teach.mapnwea.org\/impl\/maphelp\/Content\/Data\/SampleReports\/FamilyReport.htm?Highlight=family%20report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Family report<\/a>, a tool that can make these critical conversations more constructive. While it&#8217;s currently only available in English, a <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.nwea.org\/docs\/Sample+Family+Report+-+Spanish+translation.pdf\">Spanish translation is available for reference<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here\u2019s how the Family report can help.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Written for family members. <\/strong>Intended specifically for parents and guardians, the Family report focuses on what families value most: clear information on a student\u2019s performance\u2014and how to encourage learning and growth.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Designed to level set.<\/strong> A brief introduction explains the goal of the report, what MAP Growth is, and why students take MAP Growth. It also defines \u201cachievement,\u201d \u201cgrowth,\u201d and \u201cRIT score,\u201d so everyone\u2019s on the same page from the start.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Easy to navigate.<\/strong> A student\u2019s progress is broken down by subject, while graphs show individual achievement and growth compared to the national average and, when possible, compared to local state standards.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Clearly connected to achievement.<\/strong> Families are shown whether a student is on track to perform well on state-level or other upcoming assessments, like the ACT, so they can get a clear sense of how well a student is moving toward achieving bigger goals, like being ready for college.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Actionable.<\/strong> A list of questions is included to get the conversation started.
