Classroom Reports

NWEA classroom reports provide teachers with timely, actionable information to guide targeted instruction.

Overview

NWEA classroom reports provide resources designed to guide targeted instruction, allowing teachers to immediately translate test scores into customized instructional plans for a student or group of students.

At-a-glance, teachers know which students in their classes are on track to achieve growth targets and which need focused attention. The timely and actionable data provide tools to facilitate differentiated instruction by recognizing the academic diversity within a class.

Features

NWEA classroom reports:

NWEA classroom reports:

  • Present results to teachers within hours of testing.
  • Provide growth and proficiency information to quickly diagnose student needs and make instructional decisions when they have the greatest impact.
  • Allow educators to drill down to individual test scores and see the diversity in performance across the classroom for easier differentiation.
  • Engage students in their own learning plan through the automatic creation of self-populating goal setting worksheets. The worksheets pre-populate with student data and scores and can be set to compare different test terms. For example, compare student progress from fall to fall, fall to spring, or a combination of terms.
  • Feature improved Lexile booklists. Teachers can create booklists for an entire class based on a single topic of interest in addition to individual student lists.

The Teacher Landing Page provides a snapshot of class success indicators such as growth and probable proficiency.

Practical Application

Results are presented to teachers within 24 hours of testing in a format that allows them to quickly diagnose student needs and make instructional decisions when they can have the greatest impact. For example, teachers can access the Class by RIT and Class by Goal reports.

The first report, Class by RIT, groups students by their overall subject-area RIT score. Teachers can readily identify groups of students for targeted instruction.

The second report, Class by Goal, displays academic diversity within a goal strand. By clicking on a student name or score-range, a teacher automatically links to the appropriate pages in DesCartes, identifying skills and concepts that student may be ready to learn.

Several examples of additional classroom reports follow:

Class Overview

At-a-glance, teachers ascertain the number of students on track to be proficient in each of the three core subject-areas, thereby guiding appropriate instruction for each individual student.

Using this report, teachers identify areas where best practices may be directly effecting student growth by learning the percentage of students in a class who are growing more than the average student.

The Lexile booklist allows teachers to easily create customized reading lists for each student, targeting both a student's reading ability and interest. In addition to using this tool in the classroom, teachers can share the lists with parents for at-home reading emphasis during the school year or to guide summer reading.

Class Report

Teachers use the Class Report to gain deeper insight into their classes within a subject-area for the current test term. The Class Report presents a closer look at student scores, identifying achievement at the goal strand level. For ease of use, these goal strands align to your state standards.

Using this report, teachers identify a student's performance. Used in conjunction with DesCartes, NWEA's continuum of learning, teachers identify the skills and concepts that are at the most appropriate instructional level given a student's current achievement level.

Achievement Status and Growth Report

When evaluating the progress of students and effectiveness of programs, one of the most important criteria is the amount of growth students achieve. In the Achievement Status and Growth Report, teachers can view individual student and class growth over the course of the year.

How much growth is typical? This report helps teachers answer this question and set appropriate goals. The Target Growth column indicates typical growth for students who start the school year with the same test score. At the end of the year, teachers use this report to assess their success in meeting student growth targets.

FAQ

How soon after uploading tests can reports be viewed?
Teacher reports are available the day following a successful upload of test results.
Are annotated reports available to view?
Yes. To view sample reports, go to the NWEA Reports Site, and scroll to the bottom of the page. There are several annotated reports that can be viewed from here.
Which reports can be accessed from a Macintosh computer?
Teacher reports may be viewed through any Internet browser because they are Adobe Reader files (.pdf) and these types of files are accessible from a Macintosh.
What is a Lexile?
The Lexile Framework for Reading is based on the Lexile scale, which ranks books and reading abilities. Texts are evaluated for difficulty based on two parameters: word complexity and frequency, and sentence length.
What is a RIT range?
The RIT range reflects the rounded range of scores that is one standard error of measure around the student's score. It can be expected that if the students took the test again soon, under similar conditions and applying the same effort, the student's score would fall within this range about 2/3 of the time.
What is a standard measure of error?
The standard error of measurement is an estimate of the precision of the achievement (RIT) score. The smaller the standard error, the more precise the achievement estimate is.
What is a percentile rank?
This number indicates the percentage of students in the NWEA norm group for this grade that this student's score equaled or exceeded.
