This course is designed to give participants an overview of the basics the MAP system in order to develop a grounding in NWEA assessments.

Appropriate for all district staff and administrators, this course covers basic concepts in assessment and serves as the foundation for all other courses (online, regional, and on-site.) It explores how MAP assessments differ from other assessments both in purpose and in value. It also addresses how MAP data can be used to inform instructional practice. Key terminology is introduced in order to provide a method of consistent communication.

Objectives include:

  • Identifying how the MAP system works and how it is different from other assessment systems.
  • Understanding the RIT scale and what it measures.
  • Understanding how students interact with the MAP system
  • Introducing to NWEA norms
  • Introducing the concept of growth and how it is measured within the MAP system
