How to identify a problematic test item
Occasionally, test items don't display correctly during a test (missing lines or shading can appear, text may seem out of order, fonts may appear unusual, etc.). If you encounter an item that does not display properly, press Ctrl+Shift+R for Windows® or Intel® Mac® operating systems or Apple+Shift+R for Mac OS®. If this does not resolve the problem, please report the item to NWEA using the Problem Item Report Form. The Item ID number (not the question number) is the critical piece of information when reporting problems with specific test items.
- After recording the item information, you can terminate the test before the student responds to the faulty question, making sure to mark it to resume. When you start the test again (preferably on a different computer), the test will resume at the same point, but with a different item.
- Using lab computers with varying hardware configurations (e.g., video cards) that have all been "ghosted" with a single image can cause problems. This causes incompatibilities between the hardware components and the software that runs them.
- Going forward, set the test workstation's screen resolution to 800x600.
The Problem Item Report Form can also be used to report item content issues.
