May a student on an Individual Education Plan (IEP) use a scientific calculator instead of the pop up calculator?
The only way a scientific calculator should be used under an IEP is if the IEP specifically states the use of a scientific calculator during the assessment. The resulting score would be classified as a modification and would be invalid for inclusion in group summaries.
A hand-held calculator may be more familiar to the student, but MAP tests are un-timed and the pop-up calculator provides all the functionality a student needs.
