How is the percent (%) of target Rasch Unit (RIT) calculated?

The percent of target RIT is the student growth divided by the student’s RIT range growth norm.

For example: Jamaal is a student who scored 223 on his fall sixth grade test. This spring he scored 235. This means his overall growth was 12. The average “typical” growth for 6th grade students who start with scores between 220 and 230 is 7.7, which rounds to 8. 8 is Jamaal’s growth target. Jamaal’s percent of target RIT is 12/8 or 1.5. This converts to 150%. For a group of students the percent of target RIT is the total of the group’s growth divided by the total of their growth targets.
