Training Continuum

Take professional development to the next level with this series of workshops.

At NWEA, we see assessment as an on-going activity, not a point-in-time event. This is because we envision test results as something to be understood and used throughout the district to inform decisions.

Our Training Continuum helps support educators who want to establish a school culture characterized by the use of data to support decisions. Our training workshops build capacity within our member districts to understand and use data.

I have appreciated the way NWEA has worked with our district to arrange in-service presentations and opportunities to fit our needs and stay within a framework of high expectations regarding quality staff development.”

Step 1 - MAP Administration
The first step in the continuum shows new members how to implement and administer MAP tests. Participants will learn how adaptive testing can be used to measure student progress and identify instructional needs.
Step 2 - Stepping Stones to Using Data
In the second step, attendees work with the reports available after their first test season. Staff members will analyze their data, learn to interpret data, and engage with other faculty to create an environment responsive to the needs of all students.
Step 3 - Climbing the Data Ladder
In the third step, attendees learn to apply the information available on reports to their instructional practices. Participants learn how to use test results to differentiate instruction, form flexible groups, and develop strategies for ensuring instruction meets the needs of every student.
Step 4 - Growth and Goals
In the fourth step, attendees use growth data as the basis for establishing and evaluating goals. Participants learn how to work with students to set growth targets and understand how to analyze data over time to identify effective programs and instructional practices.
