Members' Seminar Presentation Submission

Application to Present

We invite you to participate as a presenter in the 2008 Members' Seminar "Heroes in Action".

This year's theme is intended to follow last year's "Data in Action" theme by focusing on how data empowers personal engagement and accountability - among kids in particular, but also among all stakeholders in education. We encourage you to consider one of three strands, or the interplay between two or more strands:

  • Empowering heroes
  • Engaging students
  • Energizing education

The following topics are provided as thought-starters as you develop and organize your presentation. They are meant to serve as a guide, not to limit the content of your presentation.

Empowering Heroes
Balancing the mandates of NCLB with goals of student growth for all, including ELL, Special Education, Gifted and Talented
Using data to create success for individuals or groups
Establishing strategies to stay ahead of the changing dynamics of education
Engaging all stakeholders in the educational community to participate in solving challenges
Engaging Students
Involving students as active partners in their own education (assessing, planning, monitoring, conferencing, peer support)
Promoting growth by incorporating all parts of the student's learning system (faculty, peers, adults, community partnerships)
Communicating and planning with teachers, students and families
Incorporating issues specific to Special Education, ELL, Primary Grades, and High School
Accounting for the whole individual, including learning style, multiple intelligence, interest, preference, pace, and social, emotional and physical needs
Energizing education
Supporting culturally sensitive, challenging, and engaging curricula
Organizing and structuring leadership to promote student growth
Creating and supporting effective learning environments
Using data to create systemic change
Monitoring and adjusting resources to facilitate student growth
Establishing educational partnerships to promote student learning
Differentiating learning according to individual strengths
