MAP for Mathematics with Spanish Audio

Accurately assess mathematics achievement of native Spanish-speaking students.

Overview

NWEA is improving the assessment of native Spanish-speaking students by providing Spanish voice translations for MAP Mathematics tests.  Students view test questions in English and hear the questions read to them in formal (Castilian) Spanish.

NWEA Mathematics with Spanish Audio tests include both comprehensive survey with goals and basic survey tests. Both tests align to a common goal structure used in all states.

These audio tests require computer test stations to be equipped with sound cards and headphones.

Practical Application

The NWEA Mathematics with Spanish Audio tests are extremely easy to use. A sound icon appears on the screen for any test item that has a sound file attached to it. Students simply click on this icon if they wish to hear the test item read to them in Spanish. NWEA also provides a set of student instructions (in Spanish and in English).

When a student presses the sound icon, the question is read in Spanish and only the words in the answers are read (no numbers or symbols are read). No additional training is needed by districts currently using NWEA MAP to administer the Spanish versions of the Math tests.
